Roy buoyed by Chelsea win

Roy Hodgson admits he was left proud as punch after watching his Albion side claim their first ever Premier League victory over Chelsea.

Gareth McAuley’s 82nd minute close-range effort was enough to secure another three points on the board for the Baggies – and get Andre Villas-Boas the sack!

The writing was on the wall for the Chelsea boss after Albion dominated against the Blues for long periods with Petr Cech having to be at his best to deny the Baggies.

But McAuley’s late goal was just reward for Albion who secured three top-flight wins for the first time since 2002 and move into the top-ten of the league on to 35 points.

"I thought we played well,” said Hodgson.

“The performance was a very good one from start to finish.

"It was made even better by the fact we had two changes forced upon us through injury.

"That can sometimes disrupt a team - but it didn't today.

"As a team, we can feel very proud of our performance against a very good Chelsea side that was well organised and well drilled - and came here to win.

"It wasn't a poor performance by Chelsea. It was a good performance by us."
