Roy Hodgson admitted his pride at watching his battling Baggies earn a well deserved point against high-flying Arsenal.
The Baggies opened the scoring inside three minutes when Steven Reid headed home Chris Brunt’s left-wing corner.
Peter Odemwingie doubled Albion’s advantage after the break before goals from Andrey Arshavin and Robin Van Persie equalled the scores late on.
Despite Albion drawing from another winning position at home, Hodgson believes it’s still a case of a point gained and not two lost.
"It is always a point gained if you are in a relegation battle and you're playing against one of the very serious contenders for the title," he said.
"A point earned in these games is a point gained because if we were at their level, we wouldn't be in a relegation battle after 30 matches.
"The league table doesn't lie.
"After 30 matches, they are second in the league, fighting hard to win it, and we are near the bottom, fighting hard to stay in it.
"I think you have to be modest or humble enough to understand we had a tough task on our hands and we had to work very hard to get anything from the game.
"Maybe getting a point is something I should be proud of.
"I'm certainly very proud of the players' performance.
"The players know how proud I am of them.
"I'm very happy with how they did on the pitch.
"I don't think they can do any more than they've done today.
"Everyone did his absolute best, worked his socks off, ran himself into the ground and was close to doing as good as he can do in terms of working hard for the team."
The former Fulham and Liverpool man reserved special praise for his battling Baggies side after a number of players played through the pain barrier. James Morrison suffered a gashed head and Paul Scharner received concussion after both were involved with aerial collisions.
"My players are working very hard to try and give the team a good defensive shape, keep opponents in front of us and make life difficult for them,” he added.
"Today we were hampered by Scharner's concussion and to some extent by Morrison, who did perfectly okay.
"But it's incredible he did so well with the gash that he's got in his forehead.
"Brunt was lying in bed sick yesterday with a very high fever and, in my opinion, was not going to play today.
"I was astounded when I got to the training ground this morning and he was declared fit.
"I didn't for one minute think he could give me 90 minutes - and yet he did.
"So, all those things considered, I think it was a remarkable effort from the players to take a top-class team so close to a defeat.
"Unfortunately we couldn't go all the way."
