Teix told to wait

Tony Mowbray has told Filipe Teixeria he may have to wait for his first Premiership start - despite impressing as a substitute against Newcastle United.

The former Paris St Germain midfielder returned from a serious knee injury against Liverpool in early November but has been restricted to substitute appearances since after a number of niggling injuries.

Although now at full fitness, Mowbray has revealed Teixeria must overcome a psychological problem if he is to be considered a first-team regular after being sidelined for a number of months.

"I've had a few good chats with Fil.

"He's still on a path back to where he should be psychologically after an injury and needs opportunities to play, which is what we've discussed.

"But the team has to come first and he understands that.

"I don't feel he's at maximum yet.

"It's very difficult for me to stick him in the team from the start.

"Yet, I understand he needs minutes on the pitch to get to his maximum.

"It's a bit of a conundrum, really, as to when to put him in and leave him out.

"When he did come on against Newcastle, he made an impact.

"I think he's got to be patient and bide his time for whenever that opportunity comes.

"Sometimes, the opportunity gets forced on you by injuries or suspensions.

"Other times, like against Newcastle, it's through the necessity to change the team shape and try to make something happen.

"Fil didn't do himself any harm against Newcastle."
