Silvestre Varela has become Albion’s tenth summer signing after joining on a season long loan from Porto.

The Portugal international, who featured twice for his country at this summer’s World Cup finals, will link up with the Baggies after passing a medical at The Hawthorns.

The winger, who can play in either flank, joins the Baggies with an impressive track record. The 29-year-old has 26 international caps, netting five times. At domestic level, he has found the net 30 times in 115 appearances.

Baggies head coach Alan Irvine is delighted to add Varela to his attacking options.

“Silvestre is a vastly-experienced player, both with Porto and his national team, and I’m delighted we’ve managed to secure his services,” said the Baggies head coach.

“He’s got pace and power, gets his fair share of goals and is also a creator of chances for others.

“He’s a fantastic addition to our squad.”
