Roberto Di Matteo has closed in on his fifth signing of the summer with the news that Jerome Thomas is set to sign for the Baggies.

The former Arsenal, Charlton and Portsmouth wide-man is a free agent after being released by Pompey at the end of the season and has now agreed terms at The Hawthorns.

The former England Under-21 winger has already had trials at Hull City and Wolves this pre-season but is now set to join Albion after discussions with the player and his representatives.

Thomas, aged 26, made more than 100 appearances for Charlton after joining in 2004 scoring seven times for the Addicks.  After four years at The Valley he made the switch down to the south coast in January but made only two substitute appearances.

The winger could make his debut against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
