Sam Allardyce claimed his first home win as Albion boss during a controversial 1-0 victory over Brighton.

The Baggies got off to the perfect start when captain Kyle Bartley headed in a Conor Gallagher corner in the 11th minute.

The hosts then conceded a penalty when Okay Yokuslu was adjudgued to have handled in the area. Pascal Gross stepped up but smashed his spot kick off the crossbar.

But the game's most controversial moment came before the break when referee Lee Mason allowed Lewis Dunk to take a free kick with Sam Johnstone still lining up his wall. Dunk scored but not before Mason had blown a second time realising his mistake.

After initially awarding another free kick, then awarding a goal, the referee was called over by VAR and finally awarded another free kick.

The Seagulls missed another golden opportunity in the 75th minute when Conor Townsend gave away another penalty. Danny Welbeck was guilty this time of hitting the woodwork as Albion somehow managed to hold on to the victory.
