WBA-MAD Player Ratings: Albion 1 Millwall 1

Last updated : 11 August 2019 By Iain Bate

Albion were unable to maintain a perfect start to the season after conceeding a late equaliser against Millwall at The Hawthorns.

A Kyle Bartley header - diverted into his own goal by Millwall captain Alex Pearce - looked to have given Albion all three points before Matt Smith's late goal.

Here's our player ratings:

Sam Johnstone: Criticised for not collecting the cross which led to Millwall's equaliser but didn't have much else to do. Commanded his area well before the goal. 6

Nathan Ferguson: Solid enough defensively when called upon although he was a little wasteful in the final third. Needs to work on his delivery if he's to stay a full-back. 6

Kyle Bartley: Did well until Millwall went more direct and then struggled with the physicality of Smith. Played his part in Albion's goal. 6

Semi Ajayi: Not as commanding as against Forest and was on the wrong end of some questionable referring decisions. Still looks a steal at £1.5m. 6

Kieran Gibbs: Once again looked a class act. Linked up well with Edwards first half but was another who lacked a killer final pass or ball into the box. 7

Jake Livermore: Was pretty comfortable throughout without ever being spectular. 6

Romaine Sawyers: Another who didn't hit the heights of last weekend. Overhit a few cross field passes first half and couldn't find the key to unlock Millwall's defence. 6

Filip Krovinovic: Albion's best player on the pitch. Never gave up driving Albion forward and showed some nice touches. Unlucky to have a great strike ruled out through offside. MOTM 7

Kyle Edwards: Was bright early on and got the crowd off their feet on a couple of occasions. Guilty on occassions of taking one too many touches. 6

Matt Phillips: Another who worked hard to get the victory for Albion. Got into some good positions but lacked a final ball. Has maintained a good start to the season. 7

Kenneth Zohore: Struggled again and doesn't look anywhere near match fit. Had Albion's best chance in the first half when his effort was cleared off the line. Subbed again after a poor show on the hour mark. 5

SUBS

Hal Robson Kanu: Showed some nice touches and had more of an impact in 30 minutes than Zohore did in 60 minute. Needed to player further forward though when Albion pushed for a late winner. 6

Oliver Burke: Came on late and was another who played too deep. Came on and played as a 10, when he really should be played on the shoulder of defenders with his pace. 5

Chris Brunt: Given a few minutes at the end in a now unfamiliar role on the left wing. Was a strange decison by Bilic considering Albion had no target man in the box to aim for. 5
