WBA-MAD Player Ratings: Blackburn 1 Albion 2

Last updated : 22 August 2021 By Wba-mad Editor

Alex Mowatt’s second goal in as many games – and Matty Phillips’ first of the season – saw Albion win on the road for the first time this season.

Here’s our official WBA-MAD player ratings:

Sam Johnstone – 5

Dreadful error he won’t want to see again gifted Rovers a way back into the game. Looked shaky afterwards but was never really tested despite Rovers pushing for a second.

Darnell Furlong – 6

A couple of long throws aside, it was a pretty quiet afternoon for the fullback. Unluckly not to find the net with a bullet header that cannoned back off the post.

Kyle Bartley – 6

Never really looked troubled by Blackburn’s forward line and will certainly have more difficult afternoons on the road this season.

Matt Clarke – 6

Was Albion’s pick of defenders before going off injured in the first half. Hopefully it’s only a minor hamstring string for the giant defender.

Dara O’Shea – 6

Looked troubled at times by Brereton-Diaz but stuck to his defensive duties well and didn’t do too much wrong.

Conor Townsend – 6

One brilliant cross to find the head of Furlong in the second half and was another who was pretty comfortable throughout.

Alex Mowatt – 8* MOTM

Quickly turning into a fans’ favourite and a wonderful volley to set Albion on their way in less than a minute.

Jake Livermore – 6

Booked for a really rash challenge but was full on energy and stopped Blackburn playing through the middle.

Karlon Grant – 7

Getting better with each game this season. Excellent run to set up Phillips’ goal and was twice unlucky not to find the net after the break with two efforts.

Callum Robinson – 6

Unlucky with a wonderful curling effort that was heading for the top corner but struggled to make any impact.

Matt Phillips – 7

A close contender for Man of the Match after setting up Albion’s first and then scoring the winner. Didn’t stop running all day.

SUBS

Semi Ajayi – 6

One stupid foul aside after he had first came on, he was another defender who was rarely troubled. May have won his place back in the side after Clarke’s injury.

Grady Diangana – 6

Came close to opening his account for this season when his close range effort was blocked. Struggled from the bench to get into the game.
