Wood hoping to emulate Bednar

Seventeen year old striker Chris Wood has revealed how he is using Roman Bednar as a role model as he looks to build on his first career goal. 

The New Zealand international smashed home an unstoppable volley against Doncaster Rovers on Tuesday to open his Albion account with the Kiwi admitting fellow forward Roman Bednar is helping his game progress.

Wood stared the season in the starting XI however has seen his place taken by Bednar after the Czech’s return from a drugs related ban.  Although disappointed to lose his place, the youngster welcomes the competition and experience his striker partner is passing on.

“It’s great to have Roman in training,” Wood said.

“He is the guy I look up to and try to act like he does and follow in his footsteps on the pitch.

“Roman is a goalscorer first and foremost. He puts it in the back of the net and he has done it so many times in the Championship already. I need to try to do what he does.”
