Match Report: Hull 0 Albion 1

Captain Jake Livermore’s stunning strike against his former club, was enough to keep the Baggies top of the Championship as they battled their way to a 1-0 win over Hull City.

Albion made one change to their starting XI with Hal Robson-Kanu’s recent performances earning him a starting spot at the expense of Charlie Austin.

After trading blows early on, Livermore set the game alight with a powerful long range effort following a West Brom short corner just before the half-hour mark.

Both sides created chances in the first half and only a superb Sam Johnstone save denied the hosts an equaliser on the stroke of half time.

Hull were in form heading into the game, winning their last three games, but couldn’t create any clear-cut chances in the second half and it was the visitors who looked more likely to add to their lead, Grady Diangana wasting their best chance with a shot which just flew wide.

Albion introduced Filip Krovinovic in the second half and the midfielder was hugely influential as the Baggies produced some stunning football as they comfortably saw the game out, Albion missing a couple of half chances to double their lead.

It was another excellent display from Slaven Bilic’s men which now sees them six games unbeaten and remain two points clear at the top of the league.

The Baggies boss was pleased with his side’s performance but bookings for Romaine Sawyers and Jake Livermore took a gloss off the day. Albion’s central midfield pairing both received their 5th cautions of the season and will now both miss the next game against Sheffield Wednesday.

With both players performing so well this season, it will be interesting to see how Bilic shuffles his pack in an attempt to keep up their impressive form.
