Preston North End drew 0-0 against West Bromwich Albion at Deepdale in front of a crowd of 11,180.

The wet and windy weather conditions spoilt the first half of this televised lunchtime kick-off.

The home side did not trouble West Brom and England goalkeeper Scott Carson in the first half with no efforts on target.

The Baggies had only one on-target effort in the first half after 14 minutes. Graham Dorrans beat Preston centre-back Youl Mawene one on one on the left wing.

His left-foot shot from the edge of the penalty area ricocheted off Preston goalkeeper and captain Andy Lonergan and on to the goalkeeper's right-hand post.

Ross Wallace had a cross saved by Carson after 47 minutes and Chris Sedgwick found Preston striker Neil Mellor and he had a tame shot saved after 49 minutes.

Darren Carter had a cross-shot saved after 53 minutes and two minutes later Marek Cech's effort was collected by Lonergan.

Robert Koren replaced the injured Chris Brunt, who hobbled off after an hour and Preston striker Jon Parkin came on as substitute for Chris Brown after 65 minutes.

Veliche Shumulikoski replaced Richard Chaplow after 71 minutes.

Thirteen minutes from time Czech Republic striker Roman Bednar found Dorrans and his right-foot shot was saved one-handed by Lonergan and the resulting corner came to nothing.

Reuben Reid replaced Cech after 79 minutes and Carter's low shot was saved after 86 minutes.

Right at the death the visitors almost found a winner as Joe Mattock's left-wing cross found Dorrans and his header was parried away well by LOnergan at the foot of his left-hand post.
