Jay Rodriguez has become Albion's first summer signing after joining from Southampton in a deal that could be worth up to £15m.

It's believed Albion will pay an initial £12m for the 27-year-old who has been capped once by England.

Rodriguez began his career with Burnley scoring 31 goals in just over 100 appearances for the Clarets. In 2012, he joined newly promoted Southampton in a £7m deal.

He hit the ground running at the Saints and was on the verge on being selected for England's 2014 World Cup squad before a cruciate knee injury kept him out for 11 months.

Despite his injury, he signed a new four-year deal at St. Mary's in 2015 and last season he scored six goals in 36 appearances in all competitions.

Rodriguez was on the verge of joining Albion last season on a season long loan before the deal was pulled at the final minute by the Saints.

"I want to be on the pitch, helping the team and wherever that may be I'm happy to do it. As long as I'm working hard and improving on each game," he said.

"I want to score goals and create chances and help the team in that way."

"As a player, you know it's a short career and you want to maximise every game you play. You want to be the player you can become.

"Albion fans will see a player who gives it everything, whether in training or games, trying to maximise everything I can do."
