West Brom defender Shelton Martis insists the injury he suffered at Stafford on Wednesday is "not too severe". The summer signing from Hibernian was substituted 60 minutes into the clash at Marston Road - which the Baggies won 1-0 - with an ankle knock.

He said: "I got a bit battered during the game but I wanted to play on. Then I twisted my ankle and with a game against Heerenveen at The Hawthorns on Saturday I did not want to force things at the risk of missing the start of the season. The injury is not too severe though. Up until that point I thought I had put in a solid performance and my headers were a lot better because that is an area I have been working on in training for the last couple of weeks."
