Albion hero Cyrille Regis has been awarded an MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours List for his services to the voluntary sector and football. Regis, who played for the Baggies between 1977 and 1984, became a true fans' favourite for his uncompromising strength as he terrorised opposition defences on his way to scoring 112 goals in 302 appearances for Albion.

Voted the club's Cult Hero in a BBC poll back in 2004, Regis was famously part of the Three Degrees along with Laurie Cunningham and Brendan Batson as the trio played a huge part in combating racism from the terraces and paved the way for the multi-cultural modern game.

Also included in Albion all time greatest 16 players, Regis now works as a football agent and participates in a host of community projects, as well as being an ambassador for WaterAid.

"It's fantastic to be awarded an MBE and I'm absolutely delighted," Cyrille said.

"It makes you think about your mum and dad, your children, your mentors, managers, fans and everyone who has played their part in my life and career.

"I don't know what date I will be going to the Palace but I'm definitely looking forward to getting that suit on and going there."
