The Baggies were again knocked out of the cup by Reading after they threw away a one goal lead in the second half.

The Royals scored three late goals to cap a disappointing day before the controversial incident at the end of the match.

Brunt walked towards the travelling 4,000 visiting fans to give his shirt to a young fan after the final whistle.

But as he approached the supporters he struck just centimetres from his eye.

“We are working with all the relevant authorities to identify as quickly as possible who can expect the severest of sanctions by the Club for his actions,” said a club statement.

We are now sure all of our supporters will be anxious to show the true spirit of the genuine West Bromwich Albion fans for the forthcoming fixtures, beginning against Crystal Palace at The Hawthorns on Saturday.”
