Albion have today turned down Fulham’s offer for skipper, Jonathan Greening, claiming the sum to be ‘derisory’.

After days of speculation the club revealed they had flatly turned down the Cottagers' bid which is believed to include a cash plus player swap deal.

Greening, who has a year, plus a further year in the club’s favour left on his current deal, has been offered a new four-year deal at The Hawthorns but is still to sign on the dotted line as speculation mounts as to where the influential skipper will start the new season.

“Contrary to reports, this is the only offer we've received from Fulham,” Albion chairman, Jeremy Peace said.

"Jonathan is our captain and a vital member of the squad.

"Therefore, we didn't give Fulham's offer a second thought.  It is derisory for a player of Jonathan's talent and experience.

"We made it abundantly clear at the end of last season that, should any players leave, it will be on our terms.

"We want to keep all of our best players as we strive to gain promotion back to the Premier League.

"We are under no financial pressure to sell anyone."
