Martin Albrechtsen has completed a free transfer to relegated Derby County after turning down Albion's final contract offer. The 28-year-old Danish defender played a major part in securing the Championship title and helping the Baggies to an F.A. Cup semi-final last term making 41 appearances, plus four as a sub, however sees his future away from The Hawthorns.

Albion signed Albrechtsen from FC Copenhagen in June 2004 with the defender clocking up 138 appearances in a number of positions across the back four, including 20 as a sub, for the club scoring four times.

"The era of Bosman means the incentives offered by clubs to out-of-contract players are often decisive in whether a player stays or leaves," Manager Tony Mowbray said.

"I'd like to thank Martin for his contribution last season and wish him all the best in his new challenge.

"We will continue to push forward in our bid to find new faces to strengthen the squad for the season ahead."
