Appy unsure on Dorrans' return

Michael Appleton insists Albion are in no rush to get Graham Dorrans playing again this season.

The Scotland midfielder has now missed the last six weeks with an ankle injury he picked up in training prior to the Birmingham City game in early March.

Dorrans has now returned to light training. But with only five games of the season remaining, Appleton says it’ll be difficult for the Scotsman to regain any sort of match fitness.

"As far as I am aware, Dozza is ticking along with his rehab and doing what is expected of him," said Appleton.

"I haven't seen him for a couple of days so obviously he has been working hard.

"Hopefully, we might see him before the end of the season, fingers crossed.

"But it's one thing saying you're fit and another thing saying you're match fit - and the games are running out now.

"Deep down, we know that if Dozza comes back and plays any football between now and the end of the season, it would be great for everyone.

"But if he doesn't, we've been playing without him for the last two months or so anyway and we'll just get on with it.

"It would be foolish of us to start rushing players back, especially when you've only got five games left - which are all crucial.

"You want to be sure that every player who starts or comes on is 100 per cent fit.

"We've got ten-13 players who have been playing quite regularly and behind them we've got lads who have been very patient and worked their socks off every day in training to be part of what's going on at the moment."
