Boss disappointed with Watford draw

Albion boss Tony Mowbray believes his troops deserved all three points after Saturday's 1-1 draw with promotion rivals Watford. The home side again had to come from behind after Leigh Bromby's sixth minute strike following Albion again failing to deal with another set-piece. However Watford failed to gain on their advantage with the Baggies having a number of chances to equalise before Leon Barnett glanced in Zoltan Gera's free-kick just four minutes into the second-half.

Hot-shots Ishmael Miller, Kevin Phillips and Roman Bednar all missed gilt-edge chances as the game wore-on with Bednar also having a goal chalked off incorrectly for off-side. Albion's failure to convert their chances leaves the Baggies in second place on goals difference ahead of Tuesday's Black Country derby (KO 19.45pm)

"I think ultimately the emotion is one of disappointment," Mowbray said.

"You hope to win every game but let's give some credit to Watford.

"They haven't got the best away record in the league for no reason.

"You've seen what they are today.

"They're very hard to break down.

"They have some big lads, defend their box very well and play it forward early.

"We gave them our customary goal start.

"But every team in the league concedes from set-pieces.

"I watch a lot of football and there are a lot of goals conceded from set-pieces these days.

"It's almost a common affair that we give a team a goal start though.

"We've done okay over recent weeks to claw that back and generally go on to win matches, which we strived to do today but didn't quite get there."

"Maybe we give a goal start to make it exciting for the crowd!" Mowbray continued.

"It was important not to lose the game, of course, but we felt as if we probably did enough to win."

Despite only securing a point Mowbray could not fault his players' effort after the tasking mid-week victory at Blackpool.

"Great credit goes to the players for the effort they put into the game just three days after a gigantic effort at Blackpool," he added.

"They've got to look after themselves between now and Tuesday night because they've got to go again then.

"On chances created we did enough to win the game.

"But it's about putting the ball in the back of the net and unfortunately we didn't quite manage the second goal.

"We got back into the game early in the second half and it's frustrating we couldn't break them down and get the second.

"Kevin Phillips had two decent opportunities - one he didn't quite get enough air on a header he tried to lift over a stranded goalkeeper and the other one from the edge of the box when it didn't quite break for us.

"Roman Bednar had a great chance from a ball put in by Chris Brunt and Zoltan Gera threatened at the back post a couple of times."
