Boss gunning for Magpies

Tony Mowbray insists that tomorrow's game against 15th place Newcastle is just another game for Albion - although he admits it would be a physiological boost to move out of the bottom three for the first time since November.

The Magpies visit The Hawthorns only three points above the Baggies with Albion able to catapult themselves out of the relegation zone with another home victory against the Geordies.

"Personally, I'm not interested in the league position at the moment," Mowbray insisted.

"I'm more concerned about the points we accrue.

"But getting out of the bottom three might give us a psychological boost.

"We could do that at any given time over the next few weeks, maybe even at the weekend.

"Then we've got something to hang onto.

"At the moment, we're actually shooting at people and trying to catch them and using that as a goal and a target.

"Whereas, once you're out of the bottom three, you have to try and stay there.

"Sometimes, it's easier to chase than be chased.

"It is a tough league this year for everyone and we are trying to make it as difficult as we can for teams like Newcastle and one or two others.

"At the moment, we seem to be making a decent fist of it.

"Let's hope we can come out on top and Newcastle can be another scalp for us - like Tottenham, Man City and Middlesbrough in recent weeks.

"We're happy enough to be going into this game knowing if we win we can jump above Newcastle.

"We'll then wait and see what the other results bring at the weekend.

"But there won't be any parties being thrown if we're off the bottom but still in the bottom three."

Joe Kinnear's men have taken just seven points away from home this season but are set to be boosted with the return of Obafemi Martins, Mark Viduka and Alan Smith from injury. New signings Kevin Nolan, Ryan Taylor and Peter Lovenkrands are also available however Joey Barton and Michael Owen miss out through injury.
