A delighted Tony Mowbray laid praise on his troops after last night's victory over fierce rivals Wolves sent the Baggies two points clear in the Championship. Albion lead the way with just three games remaining with Norwich, Southampton and QPR standing in their way to a return to the Premiership.

Zoltan Gera scored the all important goal in the 59th minute after good work from Kevin Phillips down the left following both players earlier rattling the woodwork as Albion dominated large spells of the match.

The win at Molineux not only extends Albion's unbeaten away record but also ends Wolves' unbeaten stretch and almost guarantees a Play-Off place for the Throstles. The Baggies now travel to Norwich on Saturday (KO 3pm) for their sixth in 18 days with Mowbray insisting his troops stay focused.

"On the balance of chances created and the possession of the ball, I don't think anyone can have any complaints about the result," the Albion boss said.

"We were excellent from the first minute and it was a bit of a mystery to me how it was still goalless at half-time.

"With all respect to Wolves, I felt 1-0 flattered them.

"On chances created, we probably deserved to win by a bigger margin.

"But, from my perspective, 1-0 is fine and we'll take the three points."

Mowbray continued: "Nobody is getting carried away.

"It could swing on its head again on Saturday.

"We've got to go to Norwich and try and find another performance.

"Norwich will be our sixth game in 18 days so it's a big, big ask for the players.

"Let's see how we go.

"We'd rather be in the position we are than not."

Despite making tactical changes to his starting XI for the majority of the season, Mowbray explained his decision to stick with the same team which earned a 1-1 draw against Watford only three days earlier at The Hawthorns.

"We're at the stage where we definitely want to pick the team we feel is going to win the game," he added.

"Every game is a difficult decision.

"Roman Bednar deserves to play football matches because of his goals ratio.

"It's very, very hard for him to sit on the bench.

"I've been trying to give Luke Moore opportunities to get up and running for our team.

"Chris Brunt always comes on the pitch and looks like he's going to create for us.

"It's very, very hard for those boys but hopefully they have humility and respect for the players out on the pitch to understand we've all got a common goal.

"The team was picked tonight based on my perceived weaknesses of Wolves.

"We tried to capitalise on that."
