Brunt looking to stay on goal trail

Chris Brunt has signalled his intent to stay on the goalscoring trail as he gears towards the opening day of the season against Newcastle.  A change of wings from his usual left-sided berth towards the end of the season saw Brunt at his most deadly in an Albion shirt scoring five times in the final seven games of last term.

The Northern International netted an impressive eight times for club and country in the final 18 games of the 08/09 season which resulted in the former Sheffield Wednesday man scooping the club’s official Player of the Season and leading scorer award.

“I hope I've got some momentum from last season,” the 24-year-old revealed.

"It was a nice way for me to end the season but it would have been better if we had stayed up.

"Personally, it was good to get goals but the summer is a long time so now it's about getting myself as fit as possible, starting the new season and trying to pick up from where I left off last time.

"At Sheffield Wednesday, I got 10 goals in the Championship in one season and I would be delighted with anything like that, but we'll see what happens.

"I don't really set targets and my job as a midfielder is to try to help create chances for the strikers.

"But if I can chip in with a few as well, I would be happy.

"Last season, that worked out quite well from a personal point of view.

"But it doesn't really matter who scores as long we we're winning games.

"That didn't happen enough last year."
