Brunt: We've got a mountain to climb

Chris Brunt says Albion have got 12 huge games left this season after the Baggies' disappointing 3-2 defeat to relegation rivals Southampton.

The Northern Ireland international set up both of Albion's goals with trademark crosses, but was powerless to stop the Saints marching on.

He said: “Southampton, credit to them they played well. It was definitely a six-pointer and they played better on the day than we did.

“We’ve given ourselves a bit of a mountain to climb now but hopefully we can get a few bodies back this week and get out on the training pitch.

“All the lads that have played a lot of games over the December/January period can have a bit of a rest as well because we don’t play until next Monday night.

“There was a big crowd here today and the atmosphere was good, as it was for the Brighton game before, but we just couldn't match the standard we set against Brighton.

“The stuff before the game was a nice tribute to Cyrille, who was a great man and an icon for the football club.

“It’s just unfortunate we couldn't get a result and give him the right send off.”
