Simon Cox says he’s enjoying Premier League life as an attacking midfielder.

The former Swindon man joined the Baggies as a free-scoring striker. But Baggies boss Roberto Di Matteo has deployed the 23-year-old in an attacking midfield role this season.

Cox has adapted his game to suit and has featured in the position in Albion’s previous six games in all competitions. The forward admits he’s happy to play anywhere for the Baggies, but expects to make the switch from a striker to an attacking midfielder a full time one.

"I'm happy to get Premier League minutes under my belt," he said.

"It is always better to come on when you're winning and getting positive results but at this moment in time I'm being thrown on to nick goals - and it's not happening.

"But I'm happy to be getting a chance.

"It's good for the CV, from a personal point of view.

"I'd like to start more games but it's up to the head coach.

"He has to see something during the week which warrants it.

"I've been happy with my situation.

"Dan Ashworth and I said we'd chat after the Leicester cup game but that never happened because I was happy with what was going on.

He added: "Blackpool was unfortunate and then I started against Manchester City so it's been okay for me in that respect.

"Coming on as a substitute, you do hope the game can open up when you're coming on.

"I enjoy the role. I can see myself playing there a lot.

"It's one of those where you need to see a lot of the ball and I enjoy playing off Peter or Marco.

"It's a position I can see myself playing in a lot."
