Curtis Davies resigns as captain

The centre-back wants to leave the club for a Premiership move, but has already had a transfer request turned down by manager Tony Mowbray. The 22-year-old believes that it would be "hypocritical" of him to remain captain of the midlands club, when he has made it obvious he wants to leave. #
He said: "It would be hypocritical and unfair to my team-mates and the fans for me to be captain when I want to move on. If we were promoted, I probably would not be seeking to move, but I need to be playing at the top level to improve myself against the best forwards in the Premier League."
Boss Mowbray gave Jonathon Greening the armband for the recent friendly against Hadjuk Split. He said: "Curtis Davies has just got to try to concentrate on his football. Everybody's aware of his situation at the club, but at this moment in time Curtis won't be wearing the armband for this football club, but he will hopefully still be playing for it. It's been a joint decision. I talk to my players all the time and I think he's best having a clear head. When he's asked to play he just needs to get on with it and give his best for the team."
