Di Matteo backs Cox after another blank

Roberto Di Matteo has no worries over the scoring form of Simon Cox after the former Swindon man again drew a blank against his former team last night.

Albion’s Achilles heel at set-pieces again came back to haunt them with Gordon Greer scoring the only goal for the Robins last night.  However it could’ve been a different story after Cox and his teammates missed a number of chances to secure a draw.

The recent £1.9 million signing from the County Ground was given a warm welcome on his return and almost set up an opening goal for the Baggies inside the first minute of his return.  Cox missed a chance of own to level the scores in the second-half but saw his attempted lob land just inches wide.

Both Luke Moore and Craig Beattie have scored three goals in pre-season but Di Matteo believes Cox’s first goal in an Albion shirt is only a matter of time away.

“Simon is a bit behind because he has had a bit of a problem with his ankle,” said the new head coach.

“You can see he hasn’t quite got his sharpness. But I am sure that once he gets one goal under his belt he will be fine.”
