Albion head coach Roberto Di Matteo has admitted he’d welcome Borja Valero back to the Hawthorns when his loan spell at Real Mallorca ends at the end of the season.

The Baggies’ record signing lasted only a season in the Black Country before switching back to his native Spain before the current campaign kicked off in August.

The former Real Madrid man has again found his form which caused Albion to pay £4.7 million for the midfielder since his return netting three times in nine La Liga appearances to help Mallorca to sixth.

"He's doing very well," the Italian said.

"If somebody is doing well and he fits in our team and our squad, why shouldn't I take him back?

"Last summer I had too many players in the same position.

"I can only play 11 and a midfield four or five.

"We just had too many and I had to make decisions.

"I made the decision he could go on loan because he wasn't playing week in, week out.

"He wanted to go out and I thought 'why not because La Liga is a good league?'"
