Di Matteo to make Mowbray link-up

Roberto Di Matteo has made the surprise decision to call upon former Baggies boss Tony Mowbray in a consultancy role until the end of the season.

The deal, which starts from the 1st April until the end of the season, will see Mowbray offer advice to the current managerial set-up and motivational speeches to the playing staff.

Mowbray only left the Baggies in June after accepting the vacant role left by Gordon Strachan at Celtic.  However his gung-ho approach to attacking football saw him axed after less than nine months in the job following a heavy 4-1 defeat to St Mirren.

“Roberto feels Tony’s experience and knowledge in gaining automatic promotion could be vital in the run-up to the end of the season,” a source close to the club said.

“While Roberto will still be in charge of team selection and tactics, Tony will be called upon to use his excellent man management skills in the dressing room and short passing drills on the training ground.”
