Dorrans lauded again

Graham Dorrans’ season just gets better and better after being crowned the PFA Fans’ Player of the Year for the Coca Cola Championship.  On the back of being selected in the PFA Championship Team of the Year and the club’s official Player of the Season, Dorrans beat off competition from the likes of Charlie Adam and Kevin Nolan to scoop the title.

The former Livingston man has been in scintillating form this season for the Baggies firing 17 goals from midfield.  The 22-year-old’s impressive form also saw him make his home debut for Scotland against the Czech Republic - a game he received the Man-of-the-Match award.

His international manager Craig Levin has hailed the progress ‘Dozza’ has made since his switch south of the border and hopes the midfielder is an inspiration to other Scottish youngsters.

"He has grasped the opportunity. That's something that a lot of other people could learn from,” Levin said.

"Funnily enough I have watched him five times this season since I got this job and the first game was his poorest one. In the other four he was terrific.

"He showed with his performance against the Czech Republic that he has got a big future.

"And he looks the type of kid who has come into the game from humble beginnings, if I can put it that way.

"Players improve at different rates and I watched him as a kid and I saw him play for Livingston as well. His progress has been remarkable.

"I always think that kids who start out at a lower level understand that little bit more about where they have come from - and where they could end up if they don't get it right.

"He has got a bit of charisma on the field, he plays with a certain panache and style that maybe reminds people of Scottish players in years gone by.

"He has great individual ability, he wants to take people on and he is almost cocky to a certain extent. The more we can get like Graham Dorrans the better.

"I don't know if he will leave West Brom. He has obviously progressed extremely well there and I am not advocating in any way that he should go.

"If West Brom had stayed in the Championship, I'd have had the right as Scotland manager to express a desire to see him play at the top level."

Other winners were Wayne Rooney (Premier League), Ricky Lambert (Southampton) and Kasper Schmeichel (Notts County).
