Editor's Blog: Wise words from Mowbray ring true

For any of you who didn't get a chance to listen to Tony Mowbray's comments at the recent Fan's Forum broadcast last Friday should really spare an hour of your time to hear his thoughts on everything from the youth structure to the signing of new players - click here for link. Without brown-nosing Mowbray too much I can't help but be impressed by every word which comes out of his mouth. Much like Megson, as opposed to that clueless idiot Robson, where you could hear the passion and enthusiasm in each word relating to West Brom, Mowbray's thoughts give me great faith that he'll be able to steer us to safety - whether or not we spend tens of millions of pounds in the next coming months.

Referring to new players coming into the squad it seems that his principles on maintaining a high level of team spirit will not be broken, regardless of how much a certain player is demanding wage wise. While I commend Mowbray for this there is a certain part of me which thinks that in order to move forward as a club and establish ourselves in the Premiership, players of a certain standard, who do demand more wages, will have to be accommodated. We can't continue to keep taking one step forward by winning promotion then taking two back by falling to increase our wage structure - one day, whether he likes it or not, Peace will have to break the wage limit for the good of the club.

One certain question referring to the Academy and the prospect of up-and-coming players also hit all the right buttons as far as I'm concerned. Without giving too much away for those who are going to listen, Mowbray openly admits he hasn't had a chance yet to stamp his authority on the Academy after concentrating on promotion. Certain fans, me in particular, have raised eyebrows about the signings of players such as Martis, especially about Martis thinking about it, however Mowbray believes that to bring young players through a 'B team' as such is needed within the squad for likes of Hodgkiss and Worrall to progress so they can perform and meet the rigours of first-team action and training when called upon. While we shouldn't expect too much of these players in the immediate future, with Mowbray hopefully still at the helm we'll be heading in the right direction.
