Albion have lodged a £3million bid for the Latics striker and have held talks with the player.

However, he has now returned to Wigan and could play in their opening Premier League game against Chelsea on Sunday.

"No deal has been done so Nathan (Ellington) is still our player," Wigan boss Paul Jewell told his clubs official website.

"He'll be training with the rest of the players' tomorrow morning (Saturday) and he's in contention for the match against Chelsea.

"There is no reason why I shouldn't play him; he is still a Wigan Athletic player after all."
