Despite claiming wanting to sign for a club with 'ambition' Zoltan Gera has rejected a new contract at West Bromwich Albion and signed for a Fulham, a team which finished 17th in the Premiership last season and were just 14 minutes away from being relegated to the Coca-Cola Championship.

In a move which has shocked and disappointed many Baggies fans it seems that although the likes of Benfica, Everton, Newcastle and Celtic were all reportedly interested in signing the Hungarian international Gera has decided to cash in at west London and joined the Cottagers.

Albion made it clear they wanted Gera to stay with a contract offered in October and a further improved deal at the end of the season both turned down by the former fans' favourite.

Baggies boss Tony Mowbray said: "Having offered Zoltan the best contract the club could at this time, we could do no more.

"We would like to wish Zoltan all the best in his future career.

"Everyone at Albion appreciated his professionalism on and off the field.

"But football moves on and, just as we did last summer, we are looking forward to the challenge of finding new faces to strengthen the squad for the season ahead."

In total the former Ferencvaros man made 155 appearances, including 39 as a substitute, scoring 25 times.
