However the former Blues and Fulham striker has failed to hit it off at Brammal Lane and both Horsfield and Blades boss Neil Warnock had tried to end the loan agreement.
"We have made an agreement with Sheffield United for a loan until the summer and a permanent transfer for an already agreed fee," a statement from the Baggies reads.
"That deal will stand unless United can find an alternative club to take on their responsibilities."
