James Morrison has returned from international duty after failing to shake off the knee injury which ruled him out of Scotland's defeat to Macedonia on Saturday. Scots boss George Burley was hopeful that the versatile midfielder would be fit for Wednesday's fixture in Reykjavik but has sent the Baggies man back to the Black Country.

The former Middlesbrough man trained yesterday but Burley deemed Morrison too much of a risk against Iceland with first-team coach Peter Grant optimistic the 22-year-old will back for the weekend.

"James is coming back to the club today," ex-Scotland international Grant said.

"He trained with Scotland yesterday but George didn't want to risk him for such an important game.

"I'm obviously disappointed for James and, on a personal note, Scotland, but the fact he was able to train yesterday is a big plus for us and we're hopeful he will be okay for the weekend.

"He's been outstanding for us so far."
