Despite doubts that new faces may mean a reluctance to release the captain's armband, Albion boss Tony Mowbray has given Jonathan Greening his full support to lead his troops next season in the Premiership. The former Manchester United man admitted last week he was unsure whether he would be Albion's leader on the pitch next season with new players expected for the Baggies' assault on the Premiership.

However Mowbray has been nothing but impressed since presenting a shocked Greening with the captaincy at the start of the championship winning season - where the midfielder started all 46 league games.

"Jonathan has the respect of the rest of the players because of his ability and the way he conducts himself," the Albion boss said.

"He is not hot-headed, is very calm and a good footballer.

"He is someone I can talk to on a level.

"He was given the captaincy last season because he brings just about everything I like in a footballer.

"In his own way he shows great responsibility.

"Captains don't always need to be charging around the pitch, clattering into people, shouting or shaking their fist.

"He listens and takes it in.

"I don't envisage any changes and I am not looking for another captain.

"Jonathan has just led this team to the Championship."
