Just one thing... Albion 3 Palace 2

Wow! Where did that come from? Albion blew the Eagles away with an attacking first-half display home fans have been calling for all season.

Team

Pulis made four changes to the side that exited the Cup. Gardner, Sessegnon, Dawson and McAuley were all recalled. The changes worked for Pulis with Gardner scoring the first and Sessegnon having his best game of the season.

Tactics

Pulis pushed Sessegnon further forward to provide a creative link for Rondon and Berahino. Gardner also helped out Brunt with the tricky Gardner early on, before the winger lost heart and stopped tracking Albion’s players back.

Performance

The 45 minutes was a joy to watch. Why can’t Albion play like this every week? There was pace, movement, intent and even a bit of flair thrown in. The Baggies were unlucky to go into the break only three up. But after Olsson’s early gaff in the second half, it was squeaky bum time for the Baggies after Wickham’s rifle.

Man of the Match

How many times this season has there been a game where a number of players have performed to their maximum? Too often it’s been tricky picking one player. Against Palace it was take your pick. For me, Berahino linked Albion’s attack together nicely. His finish for the third was also exceptional.

Talking Point

Two goals against Reading followed by THAT error against Palace. What has happened to Jonas Olsson? Man of the Match against Everton has quickly turned into the chump of the team. Olsson needs to buck up his ideas if he is earn a new deal. Recent performances may suggest Albion should shake hands with their ageing Swede and thank him for his years of service.

Ref Watch

Jon Moss had one of those games. Both sets of fans cheered ironically when a decision was made. Booked Dawson for a late challenge but then let Palace defenders get away with similar fouls.

What next?

Albion go to table-topping Leicester on Tuesday. I’d be amazed if Pulis goes with the same attacking intent again. Chris Brunt’s serious looking injury also gives Albion a headache at left back with Jonny Evans also out with a hamstring injury.
