Koumas anguish over Republic ban

Wales and West Brom playmaker Jason Koumas has revealed his anguish at having to miss arguably the biggest match of his life.Koumas will be suspended when Wales go to Croke Park next month to face the Republic of Ireland. The Albion midfielder, who starred in the 0-0 draw with Northern Ireland in Belfast on Tuesday, already knew he would be suspended for the sell-out trip to Dublin for a key Euro 2008 qualifier. Koumas said: "I am devastated that I am going to miss the next game because it was a stupid yellow card that should not have happened. "I could not get out of the lad's way but I was booked and it is a huge disappointment. "There is nothing I can do about it and it has been playing on my mind ever since I was booked. It is a big game to miss but I have to knuckle down and just prepare for the next one against San Marino, a couple of days later. I am gutted because it is a game we need to win but otherwise everything has been going well for me. West Brom are picking up and playing like we know we can and I have been finding some consistency for Wales, which is something I wanted to do because I have missed quite a few games in the past. Hopefully my performances are an indication of how well I want to do. I have a lot to thank Wales manager John Toshack for because he was giving me a lot of advice during the summer when things were difficult over my contract at West Brom, and he was proved to be spot-on. It is going great now, I am enjoying my football and I just want to be playing every week. I feel my form is good, West Brom are getting where we want to be and I would like to think I am now a regular in the Wales set-up."
