West Brom defender Paul McShane is struggling for fitness ahead of Republic of Ireland's European Championship qualifiers.McShane is part of Steve Staunton's squad that is preparing to take on Wales at Croke Park on Saturday and then Slovakia at the same venue next Wednesday. But the 21-year-old has now been confirmed as having sustained ankle ligament damage during Sunday's 1-1 draw with Birmingham at the Hawthorns, and after linking up with the Irish squad on yesterday morning - a day late. Macca said: "I was supposed to have flown to Ireland on Sunday night but my ankle would have swollen up on the plane. I am getting treatment and it feels okay but we will just have to wait and see how it goes over the next few days. I have been looking forward to the Wales game for ages and I want to give myself the best chance of playing but I will make sure I am 100 per cent fit to go into the game."
