Mental strength the key for Mowbray

Albion boss Tony Mowbray has called for this players to keep their heads in the remaining five games as the Baggies push for automatic promotion. Mowbray's men currently lead the Championship on goal-difference with the manager aiming to continue in the same fashion which has taken them top until the end of the season.

"We've got to keep doing what we do and try and win every game from now on in," he said.

"If we do that, we'll have no concerns.

"It's proved hard for most teams to accomplish that.

"We've been there ourselves and fallen off the pedestal before.

"The challenge is to make sure we don't fall off the pedestal - starting tomorrow.

"We're at the stage of the season where these games become more mental than physical and technical.

"There is a huge mental part to the game when it gets to the crux.

"It's about remaining focused on your jobs and keeping concentration when everything around you can be out of sync.

"The crowd could become nervous, a colleague could do something irrational or the opposition may do something out of desperation.

"You've got to know what your job is and stay focused.

"The test for us in the next five games is to do what we do well week in, week out for 90 minutes in every game.

"If we do, I'm hopeful the team has got enough to secure enough points."

Watford, Wolves, Norwich, Southampton and QPR stand in the way of the Baggies from a return to top-flight football with Albion needing 13 points to secure an automatic spot as things currently stand. However, the Baggies' vast goal difference over their promotion rivals could prove crucial.

"We're happy enough to be sitting top with so few games to go," Mowbray continued.

"We were happy just to be in contact in February and March but you come to a stage in the season where you would rather be in front than have to chase because then you can't make mistakes.

"Are we in a position where we can lose one more game because of our game in hand?

"I'm not saying I want to lose anymore games.

"We'll concentrate fully and try and win every game of course.

"But we are in a position where we can make one more mistake and still finish where we want to.

"We've got to believe and be confident that we can win every game."
