Powerhouse striker Ishmael Miller has suffered an injury setback on his knee, and as a result, has this afternoon undergone a second operation.

The 22-year-old had returned to light training and was hoping to be fully fit to face Newcastle in Albion’s first game of the season.

The Newcastle game now seems an unrealistic target for the former Manchester City forward with Roberto Di Matteo cautious not to rush the pacy striker back from the injury.

"Ishmael has a problem with the knee he previously had operated on," said Di Matteo.

"There's been some complications and he will probably be out for a little while.

"It's difficult to say how long he will be sidelined at this moment but we'll probably know more next week.

"He suffered the setback during training last week. We will see what the assessment is and take it from there."
