West Brom boss Tony Mowbray has thanked Richard Chaplow for providing the midfield balance lacking earlier in the campaign.Chaplow is enjoying his first extended run of senior football with the Baggies since his move from Burnley during the January 2005 transfer window. And adapting his naturally attacking game to give cover for the Albion back four has been vital in the club reaching the Championship's top three.
Mowbray said: "It was always about balancing the team because it was not right for a long time and a big positive in that direction is the way that Richard Chaplow has shown a great maturity in his play. My impression of Richard, when I arrived at the club, was that he was a forward-thinking, forward-running, goalscoring type of midfield player but he has managed to adapt his role and use his magnificent athleticism and quick feet to help the team. We have always had the talent to score goals and win matches - we were just too vulnerable and weak defensively because opponents were going through our midfield too easily but Richard has given us that added protection by adapting his game."
