Baggies No.2 Eddie Newton could not hide his delight after watching a much-changed Albion side brush aside Leicester to reach the Carling Cup quarter-finals.

Roberto Di Matteo made wholesale changes to the side which beat Fulham at the weekend. However his 'second-string' continued the Baggies' fine run of form.

A brace from Simon Cox, plus goals from Steven Reid and Somen Tchyoi, was enough to see of the Foxes and book Albion a place in the next round.

"We're very pleased," said Newton.

"It was a fantastic result.

"The boys moved the ball around really well and we're delighted with the performance - both the way we attacked and defended.

"We were very confident when we named that team because we've got a fantastic squad of players.

"We've got a great dressing room.

"The players have that hunger and desire to give whoever's starting competition.

"Whoever's behind wants to step in and do a good job.

"The change between Saturday's XI to tonight's XI has been seamless.

"That's because we work with all the boys and everybody in the squad knows their job.

"We're very repetitious in what we say to the boys, and they sometimes give us a bit of stick for it, but tonight shows just why we're repetitious in what we say and do on the training field.

"It means that, if we do have to make wholesale changes, the transition is smooth.

"The coaching staff are really pleased with how the boys step in and do the job that's asked of them.

"It's great that everyone's chipping in, not only offensively but also defensively.

"It's all about healthy competition.

"It inspires people to perform at their maximum.

"Hopefully, when your team is performing at their maximum, you will get the results you need."
