“It was always going to be touch and go because of the amount of pressure we were under at the end but they weren’t having too many chances and we had a few ourselves when we still had 11 men on the pitch,” said Megson after the match.

“Once we lost our captain it became more difficult but it was still disappointing the way we lost the goal.

“A two-footed challenge is a straight red card, so even though it looked a lot worse than it was, you can’t argue with it.

“But having seen one, I would now expect every two-footed challenge to result in a dismissal, no matter which team is involved.”
