Albion boss Tony Mowbray has revealed that last season's top-scorer Kevin Phillips will make a decision on his future within the next 48 hours. The out-of-contract hot-shot has attracted interest from a host of clubs interested in capturing his signature with Albion also offering a new deal to the 34-year-old former England international.

However it now looks like Birmingham City are in pole position with the Blues prepared to offer Phillips a two-year deal and meet his wage demands, compared with Albion's performance related offer.

Phillips did not join the rest of the Albion squad yesterday for the start of pre-season training however did speak to Mowbray at length on the telephone, although it is not yet known if the Baggies boss has done enough to keep Phillips' services.

"Kevin wants to get things sorted out because, being the kind of lad he is, he doesn't want to miss training, he wants to start getting fit," Mowbray said.

"I think we will see an answer in the next 48 hours but, beyond that, I do not think it proper that I say anymore until we know what the decision is."
