Pulis reflects on 'cruel' Watford defeat

Tony Pulis says Saido Berahino will still be on penalty duty after the striker missed twice from 12 yards during Albion’s 1-0 defeat to Watford.

Berahino saw his timid first spot kick easily saved by Watford stopper Heurelho Gomes before the Brazilian made an excellent save again with only minute remaining.

The Baggies boss said that Berahino was devastated after the game but should be praised for his courage in stepping up to take a second penalty after his earlier miss.

“Football can be a cruel game and I'm disappointed for the lads. And it was for Saido,” said the Welshman.

“To say he's low is an understatement.

“He's disappointed but that's the way it goes.

“It wasn't our day, it wasn't Saido's day.

“I think the first penalty wasn't the best but his second one was a very good save by their goalkeeper.

“He has always been my penalty taker. He wanted to take the second one, which showed his confidence.

“And when we get our next penalty I'm sure Saido will be the first player to grab the ball.

“Strikers miss penalties and chances. The best strikes don't hide and want to go again.”
