West Bromwich Albion came out on top in a fiery clash with ten-man Watford that boiled over towards the end.

First half goals from Northern Irish duo Jonny Evans and Chris Brunt put the Baggies in the box seat.

But there was a sting in the tale as the Hornets hit back after the break through Christian Kabasele.

Watford’s hopes of levelling the match were effectively dashed when Roberto Pereyra was dismissed six minutes from time for his part in a massive melee of players and backroom staff.

Matt Phillips completed the scoring in the final minute to send Albion into the top six

Victory came at the end of a difficult week for Pulis, whose reputation and wallet both took a hit when he lost a £3.7million High Court battle with former club Crystal Palace.

At least the head coach can take solace in the fact his current team continue to impress.

This was Albion’s third win in four and on recent evidence ambitions of a top ten finish seem more than realistic. And though they were not always at their best, they were stronger in the big moments and capitalised the chances which came their way, against a Watford team who might feel they should have claimed a point.

Watford were blown away in the first half and, though they improved, their dreadful disciplinary record will be under renewed scrutiny after winger Roberto Pereyra was dismissed following a clash with substitute James McClean.

Walter Mazzarri, the Watford manager, may also face punishment for branding referee Graham Scott “terrible” in a withering assessment after the game.

But Pulis can look ahead with optimism and relief after this result, with his reputation taking a battering after being ordered to pay damages for allegedly “misleading” Palace over his exit in August 2014.

It was business as usual for West Brom head coach Tony Pulis as his side continued their improved form with a 3-1 victory over Watford to climb up to sixth place in the Premier League.

The High Court this week ruled Pulis must pay former club Crystal Palace £3.7million. The 58-year-old must also pay costs and interest on the fine which comes from him walking out on the Eagles in 2014.

An expensive week might have felt even more costly had Watford repeated their win at The Hawthorns in last season's corresponding fixture but first-half strikes from Jonny Evans and Chris Brunt gave West Brom a cushion.
