Albion dug in to earn another point on the board after their 0-0 stalemate at Old Trafford.

The Baggies were happy to sit back and soak up the pressure as the hosts had 75% possesion.

But it was the Baggies who came the closest to opening the scoring when Darren Fletcher's long range effort was fumbled onto the bar.

Here's what the press had to say. Click on the link to read the full story.

Stubborn West Brom proved too awkward an obstacle for Manchester United as they dug in for a point at Old Trafford.

The Baggies had Ben Foster to thank for a number of second half interventions that kept the scores level.

In truth, victory for Albion would have been a little undeserved, such was United’s dominance, particularly after the break.

Jose Mourinho's side finished the game with 75 per cent possession and having had close to 20 efforts on goal.

Yet for their work-rate alone, Tony Pulis’s men were deserving of the point and while some might find frustration in their lack of adventure, it was impossible not to admire in an organised and disciplined defensive display.

Tony Pulis did not just park the bus, he brought a whole fleet of double-deckers to Manchester. West Bromwich Albion came for a goalless draw and they achieved their aim with something to spare.

They may even have snatched something more. A few minutes from the finish, West Brom had their first shot on target. It came from Darren Fletcher, it was struck with real force and in parrying it, David de Gea tipped it on to his own crossbar. It would have been the perfect smash and grab.

Given that Manchester United were without Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Ander Herrera, Juan Mata and Chris Smalling, West Brom might have been more ambitious.

In truth, this was far from the sort of siege United supporters have witnessed on plenty of occasions this term. United saw plenty of the ball but lacked any real fluency or menace and seemed surprised that the same predictable approach kept backfiring, Gareth McAuley and Jonny Evans dealing comfortably with a plentiful supply of crosses from deep.

Between them, the West Bromwich Albion centre-halves made 26 clearances, very few of which were of the last-ditch variety. As good as Ben Foster was on the day, the West Brom goalkeeper was not overemployed in the way, say, Burnley’s Tom Heaton or Bournemouth’s Artur Boruc were at Old Trafford this season.

Tony Pulis summed it up when it was put to him that Foster had been “incredible”. “I wouldn’t say he was incredible,” the West Brom manager said. “He made some good saves,”.
