"Kieran has his own ambitions and he wants to be a Manchester United player," Robson told the clubs official website.
"I was a United player and I know where the kid is coming from, you can't blame him for that.
"But he's doing a terrific job for this club and if I can extend that stay with Sir Alex and Kieran that will be great for us.
"He's still a young lad who is learning his trade and hopefully, if we have good success this season, and Sir Alex and Kieran fancy it, we can look at keeping him on loan next season."
