Superlatives for 'Super' after Wednesday win

Albion boss Tony Mowbray could not hide his delight with Kevin Phillips after the former England international stepped off the bench to fire the Baggies within a point of the automatic promotion places. The visitors looked set for a share of the points until deep into injury time when Phillips found the net from a James Morrison cross.

"The Wednesday keeper made one or two saves and ultimately 'Super Kev' came off the bench and did what he does best," the Baggies' boss said.

"I told him to go on and play with his brain rather than his legs or any other attributes.

"It wasn't a night for pretty football.

"It was a night for using your brain.

"Kevin did that by being in the right place at the right time and took his chance when it came.

"I don't think our squad is great in number but it is good in quality for the Championship.

"Having James Morrison, Ishmael Miller and Kevin coming off the bench is pretty decent at this level and tonight it helped us win a football match."

The dramatic ending to the match almost matched the scenes back in November when former Albion man, Steve Watson, snatched an equaliser for Wednesday in added time much to the dismay of Mowbray and the home fans.

""There is a bit of irony about the way the game went today with a late winner," Mowbray continued.

"When you think back to the Hawthorns game with Wednesday, there was a late equaliser for them that night.

"It's cruel for them and I feel for Brian Laws.

"The sending-off incident happened right in front of us and there seemed no obvious sending-off offence.

"We can't affect that and had to get on with the game.

"Over the match we probably did have the better chances and a few opportunities to score."
