Tininho shines for five-star Albion

Portuguese left-back Tininho boosted his chances of earning a permanent move to West Brom with a fine display in the 5-1 rout of Northampton. The Beira Mar star is on trial at The Hawthorns and caught the eye on Wednesday night, setting up two goals in the five-star performance. He offered more of an attacking outlet than Paul Robinson, who is widely expected to leave Albion this summer, with Birmingham his likely destination. And his quality of crossing caught the eye of Baggies boss Tony Mowbray, who is expected to offer him a full-time contract in the next fortnight. Another player to impress was new £600,000 signing Felipe Teixeira, who dazzled in the playmaker role vacated by Jason Koumas' move to Wigan. The Portuguese schemer grabbed two goals on the night - one a stunning 20-yard curler into the top corner - and adapted to Albion's flowing style of attacking football immediately, combining well with fellow midfielders Jonathan Greening, Robert Koren and Zoltan Gera. Kevin Phillips and Craig Beattie lined up in attack in what could be Mowbray's first-choice strike pairing, and veteran Phillips also found the net. The other two goals came from own goals, while in Albion's defence Curtis Davies was paired with summer signing Shelton Martis at centre-back. Jared Hodgkiss further staked his claim for the right-back berth with a solid display - but he could face competition from Carl Hoefkens if the Belgian defender arrives from Stoke.
